In these times of the xbox, playstation and every other console or gadget I can think of, I don’t want my two wee boys becoming addicted to them and ending up spending hour after hour sitting in front of a screen for hours on end.
My eldest boy turns five soon and will be starting school in August so I was thinking about ideas on outdoor activities he might be interested in, thinking back to my own childhood ‘not that long ago’ I had a go kart or bogey as it is called in Scotland ,don’t ask me why it just is’ my dad helped me build it. It was pretty basic, made from wood and old pram wheels but I loved it.
So I thought that’s it I’ll help my son build a bogey, so I showed my little boy a photo of my intended project. Yes dad let’s make one of those he said with an excited look in his eyes, so as I’m rummaging around in the shed trying to find some bits and pieces, my son comes in with a catalogue.
Dad, dad he’s shouting, I want you to build me one of these bogeys – Does anyone know a good mechanic???

Hahaha! Your son after all wants the modernized bogey.
He got you there, Ryan. What an intelligent boy!:)
So sweet, you can do it Ryan!! Go Ryan Go! We want to see the picture of the end result.
Yes, too intelligent for his own good JP.
Trust me Grace, you really wouldn't want to see the end result. I'll give it a shot but me and DIY don't mix!!!
ahahaha–looks like he got you there! Smart kid!
Maybe you should have given him an "older" catalog to look at.
In South Africa we called them soap boxes, Gawd alone knows why.
Thank you so much for sharing this information.
I've also heard them called soapboxes Guy, AVC I think you may be right and Kate don't just sit there laughing at me, come and help!!!
Ha! hahaha!! Your child has champagne tastes! Good luck with that!
We in the States call them Soapboxes as well. I think they were originally built from soap boxes.:)
Oh…I worry about all the gadgets children have to play with today. Times have changed.
BTW…Thanks for visiting my blog!
Go-karting seemed like so much fun. Although I have never done go-karting before.
What an awesome idea!!!
and by the way, your commetn about puffins has given me yet another reason why i must visit scotland!!!
Thanks Emm I'm going to need all the luck I can get. Welcome to my blog Jean, I get worried when I see my kids on a chute, swing, bike anything half dangerous. Welcome Mei Teng thanks for visiting, can't believe you've never been karting you must get down your local track soon.
Hi Teenage, are you any good at mechanics or bogey building? Aren't Puffins the funniest looking birds.
That first one looks a lot like the ones they made in the small town where I grew up. The good hill was on the other side of town, so I never got to try it. It sure looked like fun.
I am farily handy with a wrench and hammer but thats about it lol
OK I'll just soldier on myself then TB. Welcome to my blog SR, pity you never had the chance to try it out. Living in Scotland I never had that problem, hills everywhere.
Wow – what a great dad you are! I always find it so interesting how deserted the streets are in the summers around here. All the kids are inside. How great for your kids that you're getting them started on a fun hobby!
It's the same here Marly deserted streets, I feel kids are missing out on part of their childhood by being stuck indoors all day.
I'd help him build the old one and tell him we are starting small. I to think it is very sad not to hear the voices of children playing outside these days.
Debbie
Thanks Debbie that's very kind of you, can you start tomorrow?
Hahahaha…smart kid…he wants the modern bogey hahaha..
thanks anyway for the visit and comment Ryan.
