Situated in the heart of Edinburgh, the Botanics are world renowned for its horticultural excellence. Spread over 70 acres of stunning scenery you don’t have to be the experienced gardener to appreciated it’s beauty.

As well as having thousands of local Scottish plants and flowers, the garden also does a huge amount of international research and conservation work and is home to the world’s largest collection of wild origin Chinese plants outside Asia. Visit the world famous rock garden which is home to over 5,000 Alpine plants and the amazing 165 metre long Herbaceous Border.

Excellant Sceneries of Scotland…

The spontaneous energies of the earth are a gift of nature, but they require the labors of man to direct their operation.

Wow! Another lovely place from Edinburgh! I love plants. And … I like waterfalls a lot!

Ryan July 24, 2010 at 2:37 pm

If ever in Edinburgh, I would recommend a morning or afternnon here. It's beautiful.

Emm July 24, 2010 at 2:47 pm

It looks really lovely there and it is so inexpensive to get in! I guess things start getting more reasonable outside of London!

Ryan July 24, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Yes Emm, you are living in the most expensive city in the UK by a mile, the further north you travel the cheaper prices become.

Emm July 24, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Well it is five weeks exactly until I go to Loch Monzievaird and I cannot wait.

Ryan July 24, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Lucky you, Perthshire is a beautiful part of Scotland. Have a great trip, you should write a review of it on your blog, I'll look out for it.

That is my kind of place. I don't think I would ever want to leave it when I got there.

Ryan July 25, 2010 at 12:39 pm

Here's a question from Kat, is it wrong to wear goggles while chopping fresh onions?

I love the section with the tall bamboo – it is like stepping into another world. Wonderful post – it has been too long since i have visited the gardens.

Ryan July 25, 2010 at 6:03 pm

You can step inside the gardens and forget your troubles for a while, thanks for visiting FG.

Hi Ryan, I prefer to reply to your comment in my blog here. Thanks for sharing about your cousin having worked as a medic in Afghanistan. Hat’s off for him. He is a hero. You must be very proud of him. My friend was hit three times during their assault mission but his life jacket saved him. I believed prayers did save him. He is a military pilot and now an officer but he prefers to work with his men.

I know their (these great men) labor is not in vain. I will pray for your cousin’s immediate recovery. Btw, it is alright to unload our feelings. I always do. Appreciate you, for joining my blog coffee talks. :)

Thanks JP.

So beautiful! I am 25% Scottish (McDonald clan), but I have never been there! (Maybe that should go on my bucket list!)

William K Wallace July 25, 2010 at 9:42 pm

Every time I visited Edinburgh and I have been countless times over the years, I would always go visit the Botanic Gardens, no matter what time of the year it was. Beautiful place…

Ryan July 25, 2010 at 10:20 pm

You must visit Elizabeth, put it to the top of your bucket list. You're right William it is beautiful.

Looks a bit like a Garden we have here in Portugal, more precisely on the Madeira Island, specially those oriental ornaments.

Hi there! I have read your article, and I must say it’s quite fascinating. What you have written is a general feeling but the way you have embedded the feeling into text is admirable.
