It’s been a good few years since I’ve had the opportunity to munch on a real Forfar Bridie mmm truly delicious, however this week I was fortunate enough to be working up in that neck of the woods and just couldn’t resist the temptation of Gods own food.
Real Forfar Bridies courtesy of the thebridieshop
For those of you unfortunate enough never to have wrapped your laughing gear around a Forfar Bridie, they are a horseshoe shaped pasty filled with the finest scotch beef, onions and seasoning made only in Forfar. Sure you can buy Bridies all over the country but they are nothing more than a poor excuse for the real thing.
The recipe is a well guarded secret with only a handful of bakers knowing the exact ingredients, a little selfish in my humble opinion. Come on people share the love, I can’t be expected to drive to Forfar every day.

Hello, my name is Ryan. Just an ordinary guy spreading the love from the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Feel free to email me by clicking on the wee white envelope below.

mmmmm…that looks so delicious!
drooling over it!
Those look really good! I think we’d call those meat pies here.
At first glance I thought those were cross sections of a chunk of firewood. No doubt they taste a lot better than that.
As someone who grew up in Kirriemuir (the next town along from Forfar), when i moved away from Scotland these were the food I missed the most, and now when I live in Dundee they are well worth the 35 min bus ride to Forfar for a bridie, the ones in Dundee don’t taste anywhere near the same…
Don’t drool on your keyboard Betty.
I wouldn’t call them meat pies in Forfar Daisy or I’d be in BIG trouble.
Depends on how long you leave them in the oven for Bill.
You’re right Joanna, the bridies in Edinburgh just don’t compare.
Ooh, those do look tasty. Unfortunately, the 2 days I spent in Scotland during my travels abroad did not include a visit to Forfar. I will know next time.
I want one….NOW!
A Forfar Bridie is the business…they are delicous. It has been a few years since I last sampled one.
Just looking at the picture is making me hungry!
