Scottish Desserts You Will Love –

Here we have two delicious Scottish dessert recipes that are simple to make.

Cranachan

Here we have a traditional Scottish dessert that can be made in a variety of different ways. The easiest method is to fold your toasted oats into sweetened whipped cream then top it off with berries of your choice (I prefer using raspberries) and a splash of whisky for good measure.

ingredients
100g porridge oats
30g icing sugar
400ml of whipped cream
1 punnet of raspberries
4 tablespoons of honey
2 tablespoons of whisky

Toast the oatmeal and a sprinkling of sugar under the grill but be watchful as this process takes no more than 7-8 minutes. Blend the raspberries, then add the whipped cream until a stiff mixture forms. Stir in the honey and whisky, then fold in the oatmeal until a ripple effect is created. I’m actually starting to drool over my keyboard!!

Scottish Tablet

Here’s a recipe for those of you with a serious sweet tooth. Made from butter, condensed milk, and sugar, this is another easy to make traditional Scottish dessert. True, it may not be the healthiest option ever but it tastes sublime.

Ingredients
200g of unsalted butter
75g of sweetened condensed milk
1lb of caster sugar
100ml of water

Add the butter to a large pan of hot water, before it starts boiling add the sugar and stir thoroughly. Bring the water to the boil then add the condensed milk, keep stirring until the mixture turns to its deep caramel colour. Simmer for 25 minutes or until its thick and sticky, then pour the tablet into a shallow side tray (1cm) let it cool for 30 minutes and bingo!! You’re Scottish tablet is ready to be enjoyed.

Please do not hold me responsible if you become addicted to these fine Scottish desserts, blame my granny as it was from her secret cook book that I acquired these recipes.

I should not be reading this before lunch — I’m having some serious hunger pangs. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll have anything nearly as delicious as these two desserts. But I am going to hold on to the recipes!

The Scottish Tablet sounds like the most unhealthy thing you could eat. I definitely want to try it :-)

Cranachan looks yummy, and I can just imagine the fab pronunciation. Also glad to hear there’s more to Scottish desserts than fried Mars bars – or is that only in Glasgow, perhaps? ;)
